Ask a Psychiatrist
Should I see a psychiatrist or a therapist first?
A decent rule: if symptoms are moderate to severe, hitting your body (sleep, appetite, energy), or you suspect medication might help, start with a psychiatric evaluation, which can rule medication in or out and hand you to therapy either way. Milder symptoms tied to a situation or a pattern? Starting with therapy makes sense.

At a combined practice the stakes of choosing wrong drop to nearly zero. Whoever you see first, the other door is one internal referral away, on the same chart. The longer comparison: psychiatrist vs. therapist.
