Ask a Psychiatrist
Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist in Texas?
Usually no. PPO plans and self-pay patients book directly. Some HMO plans want a PCP referral for full coverage, and TRICARE runs its own system: Select never needs a referral for outpatient mental health, Prime allows eight visits before requiring one, and active duty always need one (tricare.mil has the official rules, and our TRICARE guide translates them).

When you book with us, we check your plan's actual requirements before the visit, so a referral technicality never turns into a surprise bill.
