Start with screening even if you have used the service before
The Office of Mental Health and Wellness says that new and returning students begin with a brief screening.
When you contact the office, say whether you are returning and what has changed since your last visit. Have your current campus and enrollment information available. Ask whether you should attend an intake window or follow another instruction. Returning to school does not necessarily mean a previous appointment or clinician assignment remains active, so confirm the current next step rather than relying on an old calendar invitation.
Match the intake window to the actual location
Lone Star distinguishes an informal walk-in consultation from its listed initial-session intake windows. The page provides campus-specific locations and LSC-Online intake links.
Read the entry for the location you intend to use. Check the day, format and building before making a trip; an online campus entry and an in-person room are different arrangements. If your classes span locations, ask the office which intake route to follow. Save the date and instructions you receive, and ask how to complete the next step if the listed intake window conflicts with class or work.
Keep voicemail and email requests focused on scheduling
The central appointment phone is voicemail-only. Lone Star warns that email is not confidential or continuously monitored, and its virtual services require physical presence in Texas.
Use a short message stating that you are requesting screening and how the office can reach you. Reserve detailed health information for the method the care team directs you to use. If you are traveling, identify where you will physically be and ask whether that changes the appointment plan. A sent message is useful for starting contact, but it is not confirmation that an appointment has been reserved.
Ask who will coordinate an outside-care handoff
For ongoing or specialized needs, Lone Star describes community referral with a case-management handoff.
Ask for a concrete handoff plan that accounts for the obstacle you are facing. If you have already called a suggested organization, explain whether the problem was a missing referral, unanswered intake question or cost. Give the case manager that outcome so the next action can address it. Keep clinical decisions with the treating professionals and use the handoff notes to track the administrative work.
- Name of the receiving service and its appointment contact.
- Whether you or the case manager initiates the next request.
- Records or permissions requested by the receiving team.
- Person to contact if the proposed route does not work.
Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Do returning Lone Star students need another screening?
The college’s current Mental Health and Wellness page says a brief screening is required for new and returning students. Ask the office which campus intake route applies.
Should I send my full history to the central scheduling email?
The college says that email is not confidential. Keep the message focused on arranging contact and ask the team how it wants health information provided.
