Ask what an internal referral means
STC’s published internal-referral procedure describes a student reaching Counseling and Student Accessibility Services through faculty, staff or administration. It says the counselor typically acknowledges to the referring person that assistance was received, while further information requires written request or approval.
If someone helped make the connection, ask the counseling office what acknowledgement will be sent and whether it needs any permission from you. You can also ask how to raise privacy questions before discussing personal details. Keep the appointment request distinct from a staff member’s offer to help; ask which office is responsible for contacting you next.

Review the outside referral before it is sent
For referrals outside STC, the college describes explaining the process and obtaining student consent. Its page says the student is financially responsible for outside treatment.
Ask which organization is being recommended and why it is the next administrative contact. Before signing a permission form, check the recipient and what information the form covers. Then ask the receiving office how to request an appointment. Write down any separate intake, insurer-verification or payment step it gives you. The college referral alone does not settle those outside arrangements.

Choose the form for the request you are making
The current Counseling and Student Accessibility Services page links a Counseling Request Form and a separate Accessibility Request Form.
Use the counseling route when you are requesting a conversation about care. If your task concerns academic access or accommodations, follow the accessibility instructions as well. Completing one request should not be treated as confirmation that the other office has everything it needs. After submitting a form, retain the confirmation available to you and use the department’s contact route to ask about an unfinished next step.
Verify the schedule for your STC location
STC’s mental-health page says daytime appointments are preferred and evening services require an appointment. It asks students to check schedules because they vary by location.
If you attend more than one campus, tell the scheduler which location you can reach and whether an evening time is the practical constraint. Do not plan around another campus’s hours. For an outside referral, make a separate record of that service’s address, visit format and booking instructions so a college meeting is not confused with the next provider’s intake.
- Which kind of referral do I have: into STC counseling or out to another service?
- What permission or acknowledgement applies to this referral?
- Which office will confirm the appointment?
- What costs must I check directly with the outside service?

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Does an STC outside referral pay for treatment?
STC’s published procedure says outside treatment costs are the student’s responsibility. Ask the receiving organization and, when relevant, your insurer about the specific visit before booking.

Is the counseling form also the accessibility form?
The STC department page provides separate request forms. Use the route that matches your task and ask the department whether another request is needed.
