Contact the center for your own appointment without a referral
SWAU says students do not need a referral to receive counseling. The official page lists a phone and email for scheduling with the center.
If you are seeking your own appointment, start with that contact rather than waiting for a professor or friend to refer you. Ask how the appointment will be arranged and what to complete before the visit. Keep the confirmed time and location in a place you can check, and ask which contact to use if a class or work conflict arises.
Use the referral form when you are helping another student
The university provides a separate counseling-referral form for faculty, staff and friends. Its page says counseling staff follow up with the student after a referral.
Before opening that route, distinguish your purpose from booking your own appointment. Use the official instructions and give accurate information about the concern you are reporting. If you are unsure which process applies, ask the center. Do not interpret the act of referring someone as choosing an appointment on their behalf or as confirmation that they have attended.
Set expectations about who can receive follow-up information
SWAU says the referring person cannot receive information about the outcome without the student’s written consent.
A student who wants someone involved can ask the center what permission is needed, which information it covers and how to change it later. A friend or staff member should ask about the process without assuming that making the referral entitles them to attendance details. If you need to provide additional information, ask the office how it should be sent rather than treating silence about the outcome as proof that nothing happened.
Keep a relaxation-room reservation separate from counseling
The counseling page also provides a distinct booking link for its relaxation room.
Check the label on the link before reserving a time. If your goal is to speak with a counselor, use the counseling scheduling contact and confirm that appointment separately. A relaxation-room reservation should stay labeled that way in your calendar. If you accidentally choose the wrong route, contact the office to ask how to correct it instead of expecting a room booking to be converted automatically into a counseling visit.
Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Do I need a faculty referral before contacting SWAU counseling?
No. SWAU says students can request counseling without a referral. Use the center’s published scheduling contact for your own appointment.
Will a friend who referred me automatically hear the outcome?
The center’s stated process requires the student’s written consent before giving the referring person outcome information. Ask the center about the scope of any permission you are considering.
