Arrange the initial appointment through the Counseling Center
Southwestern directs new clients to the Counseling Center in the Charles and Elizabeth Prothro Center, Suite 200, to arrange an initial appointment.
When you contact or visit the office, explain that you are starting counseling there. Ask what appointment has been arranged, where it will take place and whether there are steps to finish beforehand. A trip to make an appointment should not be treated as a confirmed counseling session. If your classes prevent an office visit, ask the center how to handle the scheduling request.

Match the Medicat forms to the appointment you arranged
The official page links the Medicat patient portal and describes personal-history, demographic and client-rights paperwork. It allows forms to be completed ahead of time or with extra time on arrival.
Use the portal link on the university page and check which documents are required for your visit. Read the consent information before signing. If a form will not load or a question is unclear, contact the office with the form name and the step that failed. Ask whether to arrive earlier if you still need to complete paperwork; do not guess that the appointment time includes it.

Use the office contact for returning-client scheduling
Returning clients and students with questions are directed to the office phone listed on the Counseling Center page.
Say that you have attended before and explain whether you need another visit, a change to an existing appointment or clarification about returning after a break. Ask if the center wants updated forms. Keep the confirmed date separate from a message requesting a change, and check which counselor or office will send the reply. This avoids assuming that an older portal entry is your next appointment.

Leave an outside-referral discussion with a specific next step
Southwestern describes off-campus referrals for psychiatry and longer-term counseling.
If you discuss that route, ask for the receiving practice’s name and who should contact it. Before moving records, ask which documents the receiving office needs and how the center handles permission to release them. Confirm appointment arrangements and charges directly with the outside practice. Keep a short task list so a referral suggestion does not get mistaken for a completed booking.
- Which office should I contact first?
- What, if anything, will the center send after I authorize it?
- Who should I contact if the referral cannot be arranged?

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Can I use the same scheduling step for a first visit and a returning visit?
Southwestern lists separate instructions: new clients arrange an initial appointment through the center, while returning clients use its published office phone. Explain which situation applies to you.

What should I check before completing Medicat forms?
Confirm the appointment instructions, the forms assigned to you and whether extra arrival time is needed. Ask the center about an incomplete or unclear form.
