Use the intake to define the next service
Sul Ross’s counseling FAQ describes an initial contact, check-in, meeting with a counselor and connection to a suitable resource. The counselor may recommend campus counseling, another campus service or an outside medical, psychiatric or community referral.
When contacting the office, explain whether you are seeking a first counseling conversation or following up on an existing recommendation. Confirm the appointment format and any paperwork. Ask which actions the office will take and which remain yours to complete.
Keep accessibility registration as its own task
The university’s accessibility page describes enrollment, documentation and registration with the Counseling and Accessibility Office as part of its process. It also distinguishes academic accommodations from nonacademic requests handled with the relevant department.
Ask what documentation is needed for your particular request and where to submit it. If a deadline is approaching, make it explicit. Counseling attendance, a medical diagnosis and an approved accommodation are different facts; this guide cannot determine whether a requested arrangement will be approved.
- The course, activity or setting where the barrier occurs.
- The office receiving the request and the submission method it approves.
- Any documentation the office says is needed.
- The response or letter still outstanding and the follow-up date.

Check what happens after an accommodation decision
Sul Ross describes accommodation letters and student communication with instructors as part of the academic process. It also provides an office contact when arrangements are ineffective or insufficient.
Once a decision is made, ask how the information reaches the people implementing it and what you should do next. Keep the decision and implementation steps together. If something is not working, explain the remaining barrier to the office rather than assuming a letter alone finishes the process.

Check the virtual counseling allowance and location
The Counseling and Accessibility Services page describes a limited number of included TimelyCare counseling sessions and a paid continuation option. Confirm the current allowance and your remaining visits before making a continuing-care plan.
Tell the service where you will physically be during each virtual appointment, particularly if you are away from Alpine or outside Texas. Ask which service is available at that location and for your enrollment status. App access does not establish universal clinical access, and this guide does not promise cross-border care.
Make a community referral usable
If an outside medical or psychiatric service is recommended, ask what the referral is intended to accomplish and whether records or a formal referral are needed. Contact the receiving office about its intake process, cost, insurance and actual appointment location before arranging travel.
Record the office contacted, its response and the person who will help if the connection fails. Ask your current treating clinician how care questions should be handled while another appointment is pending. A university referral does not establish acceptance, a prescription or payment at Lyte or any other practice.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Confirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Does booking Sul Ross counseling also register an accommodation request?
No. The university describes a separate accessibility registration and documentation process. Tell the office both tasks you need help with and confirm the next action for each.

Are all continuing TimelyCare counseling visits included?
Sul Ross publishes an included session allowance and a paid continuation option. Confirm the current terms and your remaining visits rather than assuming unlimited scheduled counseling.
