Arrange your own counseling appointment with UCC
TSU directs students to call 713-313-7804 or visit the Student Health Center to arrange a University Counseling Center appointment. First-time users have an intake appointment. Its appointment page also directs students to MyTigerHealth for appointment information and required forms.
Start from the official UCC page when opening the portal. Ask the office for help if you cannot access your account. Confirm the appointment time and complete the requested forms through the university’s approved system. Do not send portal credentials or your health history to an unrelated website offering to book on your behalf.

Confirm the service and its payment rules
The UCC describes counseling as available without an additional charge to enrolled TSU students. Student Health Services has its own eligibility requirements, including current enrollment and the Medical Services Fee. Its page says outside services are the patient’s responsibility.
Before arranging another clinic, ask what service the referral is for and how that clinic bills. Verify the specific clinician and your exact insurance plan rather than assuming a campus fee covers outside care. If you need both therapy and medication appointments, ask whether those are separate visits and charges.

Use a medical-referral question for medication needs
TSU Student Health Services lists mental-health referrals among its services and gives 713-313-7173 as its appointment number. This published referral service is not evidence that a particular psychiatric medication can be prescribed or refilled on campus.
Tell the office whether you already have a prescriber or are seeking an initial medication evaluation. Ask which clinician should assess that request. For outside care, confirm records requirements and the next appointment before treating the transfer as complete. Ask your current prescriber about any gap between appointments rather than assuming a counseling intake will cover it.

Keep a family referral separate from a booked visit
TSU’s family guidance says counselors can discuss concerns, help with community referrals and receive a referral asking them to contact a student. It also explains that a student’s counseling information is not shared with family simply because they ask.
If you are the student, decide what practical help you want: someone to sit with you while you call, help comparing outside costs or transportation to an appointment. If you are a family member, ask how to share a concern without expecting access to counseling details. A referral request and a student’s confirmed appointment are different steps.
Leave intake with a concrete next step
At the end of an appointment, ask the clinician to explain the proposed plan in terms you can act on. Do you need another counseling visit, a different campus service or an outside assessment? Write down the next contact, who will make it and what records or forms are needed.
If the recommendation involves two clinicians, ask which one will handle each part of care and how they can communicate with your authorization. If an outside provider cannot meet your needs, tell the referring team which barrier you encountered. That is more useful than simply reporting that the referral did not work.
Save TSU’s urgent-support numbers
TSU lists an after-hours crisis number of 713-313-7863 and TSU Police at 713-313-7000. Call or text 988 for crisis support, or call 911 for an emergency. Do not wait for a routine appointment or family-referral form to be answered if immediate help is needed.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
Questions before you arrange care
Which number should I use for a counseling appointment?
Use the UCC appointment contact, 713-313-7804. The medical clinic has a separate number; tell the office what service you are trying to arrange.

Can a parent request that UCC contact a student?
TSU publishes a referral route for that purpose. It is separate from confirming a counseling appointment and does not give the parent automatic access to the student’s counseling information.
Does TSU publish a guaranteed on-campus medication-management pathway?
The Student Health Services page reviewed for this guide lists mental-health referrals. Ask the office directly about the appropriate evaluation route and current services; this guide does not promise on-campus prescribing.
