Counseling and medical care have different entry points
Texas Tech directs students seeking counseling without medication to the Student Counseling Center. Student Health Services also has a behavioral health team; a student who has not established care there can ask its nurse case manager how to begin. Existing Student Health patients can contact their medical provider.
For your first contact, prepare one sentence about the help you want: a therapy appointment, a medical evaluation, or help transferring established care. Ask which department will arrange that service and whether you must complete an intake before receiving a referral.

Clarify the next step after a psychiatry referral
Student Health describes referral options through Mantra Health and the TTU Health Sciences Center Department of Psychiatry. A referral route is not confirmation that a particular clinician or appointment is available.
Keep the referral destination, contact instructions and next follow-up date together. If a referral does not result in an appointment, contact the referring office with the specific obstacle: the office has not responded, the insurance network differs, or the proposed visit format does not work. Ask for the next available route rather than starting several uncoordinated requests.

Check summer or withdrawal eligibility before making plans
The SCC publishes enrollment rules and a conditional summer eligibility route. Its guidance advises students who are not enrolled to discuss whether the service fits before paying a summer health fee. Withdrawal can also change access.
Put your last enrolled date, expected next term and travel dates on a timeline. Ask the SCC which dates apply to you and when a community handoff should begin. Do not assume that paying a fee establishes eligibility for every type of care.
Keep the billing and records questions separate
Student Health medical services and counseling-center eligibility have different rules. Ask the receiving office for its own cost information, insurance requirements and secure records process. A campus charge or benefit does not establish your cost at an independent practice.
Before switching offices, record who has accepted responsibility for the next appointment. If you take medication, send any refill or timing questions to your current prescribing team; a new appointment request does not itself transfer prescribing responsibility.
- Write down the receiving clinic and the specific service requested.
- Confirm the visit format and where you will physically be for a video visit.
- Ask which records are needed and use the office’s secure transfer process.
- Confirm the estimated visit cost and whom to contact if the referral stalls.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
