Arrange the initial consultation by phone or at the office
UHCL’s counseling FAQ directs students to phone or visit the office for an initial consultation and to have their student ID ready. It explicitly says email is not used for scheduling.
Use the contact details on the official FAQ and explain that this is your first consultation. Have your class and work schedule available so you can discuss a workable time. Before ending the conversation, check the arrival instructions and whether there is anything to complete beforehand. If you previously emailed, contact the scheduling office to establish whether an appointment was actually arranged.
Ask about paperwork assistance before the visit
The therapy-services page describes initial paperwork followed by a brief assessment. It tells students who need an accommodation to complete that paperwork to contact the office.
Raise an access problem while arranging the consultation: reading the documents, using the required format or completing them within the scheduled time. Ask what assistance the office can arrange and when to arrive. Keep the instructions with the appointment details. Preparing the forms supports the initial discussion; it does not decide which ongoing service the center will recommend.

Coordinate both people for a couples consultation
UHCL’s FAQ says at least one partner must be a UHCL student for couples counseling. Both partners need to attend the initial consultation and complete the paperwork.
Before requesting a time, compare both calendars and tell the office that you are asking about couples counseling. Confirm what each person should bring and how the nonstudent partner receives any instructions. If one person cannot attend, ask the office how to proceed instead of treating a one-person visit as completion of the couples intake. Let the center resolve questions about a changed enrollment status.
Separate counseling intake from testing or accommodation requests
The FAQ says the center does not provide ADHD assessments or testing and does not write accommodation letters. It directs academic accommodation applications to the Accessibility Support Center and describes referral help for testing.
If documentation is your immediate task, identify the receiving campus office and ask about its application requirements. Tell the counseling office if you are also seeking support, so the two requests remain clear. For an outside evaluation referral, verify the receiving service’s intake and document requirements directly. A counseling appointment should not be assumed to complete a separate accessibility application.
Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.
Request a Lyte appointmentConfirm appointment format, availability and costs before booking. For questions, call 469-733-0848. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time. Weekend appointments are limited and offered case by case.
Send medical records and insurance details only through the practice’s approved secure intake process.
