Start with the counseling appointment that fits your task
UNT Counseling and Testing Services (CTS) uses an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and recommend a next step. That might be brief counseling, a group, a workshop, or another campus or community service.
To arrange counseling, call 940-565-2741 or use the email address on UNT’s appointment page. If your main goal is finding an outside therapist or prescriber, ask about case management or a referral consultation. You do not need to describe that request as ongoing campus therapy.

Use the separate psychiatry intake for medication care
UNT’s Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) accepts self-referrals to psychiatry. Contact the case manager or psychiatric nurse using the official psychiatry page. The process begins with a brief intake; the team may request previous treatment records before deciding whether campus care fits your needs.
An evaluation does not guarantee ongoing SHWC treatment. UNT encourages students whose medication care is stable with a home prescriber to continue that relationship. If you want to transfer, request complete treatment records and ask the SHWC team how to submit them for review.

Check summer counseling eligibility before making plans
CTS ordinarily serves actively enrolled UNT students. For summer counseling, UNT also permits students enrolled in both the preceding spring and upcoming fall, even when they are not taking summer classes. The office checks enrollment.
Ask CTS to confirm your own eligibility if you are graduating, taking leave, or changing enrollment. This counseling rule does not establish eligibility, fees, or appointment availability for a separate psychiatry service or outside practice.

Request the records held by the office you used
For SHWC medical records, sign in to the secure UNT Patient Portal, open Forms, and complete the Medical Records release-of-information form. UNT says processed records appear in the portal’s Messages area.
CTS counseling records follow a separate release process: contact CTS to begin a signed release. Tell the receiving clinician which office provided your care and ask what records are needed before arranging the handoff.

Considering therapy or medication management at Lyte
Lyte provides therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Ask which service and clinician fit your needs. A medication evaluation does not guarantee a prescription or continuation of a particular medication.
Lyte Psychiatry offers telehealth visits to patients who are physically located in Texas at the time of the visit. In-person appointments take place at Lyte’s Pantego clinic; this campus guide does not describe a Lyte office at the institution.
Coverage and costs depend on your specific plan, clinician, visit type and deductible. Confirm network status and expected costs before booking. A student plan, parent’s plan or campus referral does not by itself establish Lyte coverage.

Questions before you arrange care
Do I need a campus referral before contacting UNT psychiatry?
No. UNT’s psychiatry page permits self-referral. Contact its case manager or psychiatric nurse and follow the intake instructions. The team decides whether campus treatment is appropriate.
