Ask a Psychiatrist
Will my teen be put on medication at the first visit?
Only if it's clearly warranted, and never around you. A first visit is an evaluation: what's driving this, how much is daily life actually impaired, what's been tried. Plenty of teens leave with a therapy plan and no prescription.

Some genuinely need medication sooner, and when that's the call you'll hear the why, the what-to-watch-for, and the check-in schedule after every change. The thing you should never accept, here or anywhere: a script written off a 15-minute conversation. That's not an evaluation, that's a transaction.
